You Can't Shame Your Way Out of a Cycle.
Most parents have a deep desire to give their child what they didn't have. Not just material things — but the love, care, and emotional support they didn't receive. The safety, the stability, the opportunities they never had. So many parents genuinely want to do better. They read the books, follow the advice, try to put their child first. And then they lose it: Reacting in ways they swore they wouldn't. Saying things that sound like their own parents. Yelling, shutting down, getting overwhelmed. And then the inner critic kicks in: "I'm doing it wrong. I'm messing them up." Knowing the cycle and breaking it are two different things.
Most parents don't realise these thoughts ARE the cycle:
"I don't want to mess up my kids." / "I want to give them the childhood I didn't have." / "I just need to be more patient and calm." / "I've done so much work on myself — why does it still show up with my kids?" / "I just need to raise a good child." / "If I do this right, the cycle ends with me."
These thoughts might sound like care. But it's driven by fear, pressure and blame. Here's what people don't often support mothers with: Putting yourself last doesn't actually benefit anyone. A depleted mother can't be present. A mother running on empty can't read their child's behaviour clearly — they read it through their own exhaustion, frustration, and unmet needs. A mother who's abandoned herself teaches her child, by example, that mothers are supposed to abandon themselves too. Looking after yourself isn't selfish. It's part of the cycle-breaking work. The mother who's healing alongside her child — not at her own expense — is the one who actually breaks the cycle.
Here's the real problem: Cycle-breaking doesn't happen through more information. Or more willpower. Or more parenting books. Trying harder using the same shame-driven approach is how the cycles got there in the first place. You can't shame your way out of a cycle. You can't read your way out either. You need a different approach — practical tools, used while you're still in the middle of raising your kids. Without giving up your own wellbeing in the process.

How each module works
Every module follows the same three-part structure. You go through the cycle, you get a play skill to use with your child, and you get an experiment to try in your own life.
PART 1
The Cycle
You learn what the cycle actually is, where it came from, and how it shows up in your parenting. Not theory — the real patterns you recognise in yourself. You start to see it clearly so it stops running on autopilot.
PART 2
The Therapeutic Play Skill
You get a specific play skill designed for the parent-child relationship. It targets the cycle directly — so you're not just understanding the pattern, you're changing it through the way you connect with your child.
PARTÂ 3
The Experiment
This one is for you. A small, practical thing to try in your own life — not with your child, but for yourself. Because breaking cycles isn't just about what you do as a parent. It's about how you treat yourself too.

A note on therapeutic play
Play is how children make sense of the world — and the research backs this up.Therapeutic play is not about buying the right toys or running structured activities. It's a way of being with a child — following their lead, staying present, and creating the conditions where they feel safe enough to process what's hard. This is called a child-centred approach, and it's the foundation of play therapy. The research is clear: children don't need a therapist to benefit from therapeutic play principles. Studies consistently show that when parents learn and apply these skills at home, outcomes for children improve significantly — sometimes more than in clinic-based therapy alone.
The relationship is the intervention. The therapeutic play skills in this course are generally most effective for children aged 3 – 12 years — the developmental window when play is the primary language children use to communicate, connect, and heal. That said, the principles of attunement, presence, and following a child's lead remain valuable well beyond this age.
Important: This course teaches therapeutic play principles and skills for use in everyday parenting and professional practice. It does not replace clinical play therapy training or therapy for children with complex or clinical needs.
